The assessing authority looks at:

Critical watch-out: VETASSESS can be strict about qualification level. Many Nigerian professionals discover that their qualifications โ while respected at home โ are assessed as below the required level in Australia. CPA Australia / CAANZ / IPA โ Accounting Bodies
Occupation: Accountants (ANZSCO 221111), Taxation Accountants (221113), Management Accountants (221112)
Nigerian accountants who are ICAN members need to know that ICAN membership alone does not satisfy Australian requirements. You need your actual accounting degree assessed alongside your work experience. CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), or the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) will assess your accounting qualifications depending on your specific profile.

Common Reasons Nigerian Professionals Are Rejected
Understanding why assessments fail prevents expensive, time-consuming resubmissions:
1. Qualification below the required level
A three-year Nigerian nursing diploma assessed as below bachelor level. A Higher National Diploma (HND) in a technical field that does not meet AQF Level 7. Know what level Australia requires for your occupation before applying.
2. Insufficient work experience in the nominated role
Experience in a related but different role does not count. Working as a healthcare assistant while also holding an RN qualification is not the same as working as a Registered Nurse. The roles, duties, and ANZSCO codes must align.
